33 Johnston St, Port Melbourne

Designed by Rothe Lowman Architects and completed in 2000 by Sheridan Property on the site of the old iron “sugar shed” that served the local sugar industry that was active around the Sandridge Lagoon from the turn of the century. A boutique development of just 30 apartments over 6 levels, primarily one and two bedrooms with a 270 square metre penthouse encompassing the entire top floor with amazing views in every direction. Sugar apartments was very different to what had been built previously, with exposed concrete floors, beams and ceilings and offering a distinctive industrial feel. Built on a prime corner site just 100m to the beach, many of the apartments enjoy water or city glimpses. There is a communal terrace on the 3rd level and there is stacker car parking on the ground floor.
